Course Overview:

Disaster recovery presents significant challenges for city and town governments, requiring leaders and staff to navigate a complex landscape of FEMA Public Assistance requirements, documentation standards, cost eligibility rules, and regulatory compliance obligations. This interactive session provides municipal officials and staff with the knowledge and tools needed to effectively engage with FEMA throughout the disaster recovery process.

Through an expert-led session, participants will gain a practical understanding of the FEMA Public Assistance program lifecycle, from damage assessment and project formulation to reimbursement, closeout, and audit readiness. Special emphasis is placed on municipal advocacy and agency, empowering participants to confidently represent their communities' interests when working with FEMA, state agencies, and other recovery stakeholders.

 

Course Objectives:

• Outline the foundational structure and requirements of FEMA's Public Assistance Program. 

• Identify eligible work, costs, and documentation requirements for Public Assistance projects.
• Define ways to navigate FEMA regulations and policy requirements throughout the recovery lifecycle.
• Execute effective municipal advocacy efforts when working with FEMA and other partners.
• Implement best practices related to disaster recovery funding and project
